Breastfeeding & Herbalife
I've been asked by customers who would like to know if breastfeeding moms can take Herbalife.
So I found this article from http://rozey-herbalife.blogspot.com/2008/07/breastfeeding-herbalife.html
Can Breastfeeding Moms take Herbalife Shakes?
Yes, breastfeeding moms can take Herbalife Shakes. Certain breastfeeding mom will want to directly start on the losing weight program. Certain breastfeeding mom will want to take the shakes for maintenance and then start with losing weight.
Breastfeeding mom are advisable to get onto lose weight program with Herbalife shakes after 8 weeks of delivery.
During the 1st -8th weeks, breastfeeding mom can take the shakes for health and weight maintenance.
How to take it for maintenance?
Breakfast - Shake
Lunch - Normal
Dinner - Normal
For breastfeeding mom, taking the shakes F1 + F3 is a must. F3 can help to increase the milk production. By taking just F1 alone, the milk production will be reducing..
Can Breastfeeding Moms take Tea-Mix
It is not advisable for breastfeeding mom to take tea mix. This is because in the tea mix it does contains tea caffeine extract.
However, I do ever met customer that she told me that even while breastfeeding she is still taking nescafe everyday cause she cant live without nescafe. So, if breastfeeding mom is taking nescafe.. then, does not make much difference in drinking tea mix.
But, if breastfeeding mom still wanted to consume tea mix, then make it very lite. Just a little light yellow colour will do. Remember to drink sufficient plan water daily.

PPP??
So when I read .. She wrote PPP .. Gosh! I really didn't know what it was. So, I googled and the result was - ShapeWorks Formula 3 Personalized Protein Powder (PPP) .. In Malaysia, we say it as Protein or Formula 3 (F3) :)
Anyway, I learnt a new abbreviation today :) But why do some people tend to get hungry fast even after their shakes?? Has this happened to you before? If yes, this might the problem - wrong breakfast or you had the food which is too much in content of CARBOHYDRATE (SUGAR)
Do you know that all our Health problems or challenges start everyday in the morning? Not 10 years ago, last year or in any specific date. Actually today it's scientifically proven that it's every single day in the morning, because it's in the morning that you set your body for the rest of your day. And this is a very important discovery, once now we know how to fix it for the rest of our life.
So, let me explain to you... You know a strong connection has recently been discovered between bad breakfast and many health-related problems. As you might know, our body consists of 100 trillion cells which need 114 various nutrients during the day.
What you ate yesterday consists of two major groups of elements. The first group supplies energy (proteins, fats, carbohydrates). The second group supplies building materials (amino acids, vitamins, minerals, microelements, etc).
You spent energy yesterday when you were awake, and your body used the building materials at night to regenerate itself. Besides, your body has spent 1 liter of water during the night through breathing, sweating and morning visit to the bathroom.
So your body wakes up "empty" in the morning and on behalf of 100 trillion cells begs you, "Hey, give me back all the nutrients, energy and water I spent in the last 24 hours". You may not feel hungry or thirsty in the morning, but it's just a matter of time.
And now let's see what you are giving your body in the morning: mainly carbohydrates. These are simple carbohydrates which when digested immediately turn into sugar. Your body wakes up in the morning and asks for vital nutrients and water, and you give it sugar instead.
By raising the blood sugar level, you force your pancreas to overproduce insulin. Insulin removes extra sugar from the blood and turns it into fat. As a results, blood sugar level drops, often below the level you woke up with.
Now you are feeling hungry and weak as your brain lacks sugar. It's a reason behind cravings. To overcome hunger, you again need simple carbohydrates (chocolate, sweet coffee, sandwiches, sweets, cookies, doughnuts, soft drinks and juices, etc.) which again raise your blood sugar level and free you of hunger and weakness. Each sugar "injection" is followed by the insulin surge.
This cycle repeats itself several times a day and you develop dependence on carbohydrates. The excess of carbohydrates makes the pancreas work at constant overload.
It's one of the most frequent reasons for developing diabetes. Besides, excess blood sugar damages blood vessels. Excessive sugar will be again and again turned into extra fat. All the above is the most common cause of extra weight, high blood pressure and diabetes. And it all begins with a bad breakfast.
Well, you would you like to know what a good breakfast is supposed to be, wouldn't you?
Well, it should meet four major criteria:
* Restore the energy spent in the last 24 hours
* Restore the building materials spent during the night
* Replenish the water stock
* Maintain the blood sugar level within the normal range and prevent insulin surge
Would you be interested to know more about the Healthy Breakfast that able to:-

Do and Don't (For Lose Weight Programme)
Do
* Drink at least 2 liter of water per day (1liter tea mix, 1 liter plain water). The more water you take take, the better it is.
* Take additional shakes when hungry, and avoid snacking unhealthy food.
* Avoid sweet drink or soft drinks.
* Exercise * Replace 2 meals with shake + 1 normal meal.
Don't
* After drink shake, do not eat normal meal. This will make you gain weight. If you feel like wanna eat, eat little bit, and make sure it is after 2 hours after drinking the shake.
* Don't create your own shake recipes like adding MILO, Nescafe, Oats, Milk Powder..etc etc.. For best results add with plain water.
* Do not use hot water to make the shake.
Should I add milk to my shakes?
Question: Is it true that drinking milk with the shake will help to break the fats faster than water? I went into severel websites for weight loss including some of herbalife sites that says that milk helps to lose weight abt 50% more compared to those who are not drinking milk. Is that true? If i were to mix low fat milk with shake, are there chances that im actually going to gain weight?
First of all, milk contains animal protein. So, when animal protein are not totally digested and turn to become energy, it will store inside the body and become fats. So, when adding it to your shakes, it is adding more calories and adding more fats too if it is not totally digested.
Avoid dairy products in our daily diet…as much as possible.
Cows milk is made for baby cows, NOT humans. Cows have 4 stomach to digest the very high casein(mucus) content.
Human have a very hard time digesting cow products, which doctors believe being lactose intolerant is a NORMAL phenomenon. No other animal on earth naturally drinks another’s milk. Only humans do.
That is why human get diseases that animals normally do not get such as allergies, asthma, and sinus problems.Dairy products are very mucus forming in human.
Add up all the growth hormones and antibiotics that are given to cows and drinking milk is very unfit for humans to drink. It is amazing to see that people actually take special drugs (lactaid) to TRY and digest dairy products.
Inability to digest another animal’s product is not the food’s problem, but in the person trying to ingest it!The worst thing one can do is to take drugs to digest the diary product.
Instead of taking dairy products, look for soy, rice, almond or oat milks which do NOT have harmful chemicals in them.Milks from grains are much better for the digestive system.
As for the conclusion, I have lost my weight successfully with just mixing plain water to my shakes and in my daily diet..I am avoiding dairy products as much as possible.
However, if you want to try out to milk to see if it helps you to lose weight, yes..you can try it out…

Why Be Active?
For some quick tips, see below.
1. Renew your commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Think about increasing the types of activities that work for your lifestyle and that can easily be built into your day. Make it a point to read up on fitness news and information, such as this article about exercise. Put your fitness plan into action today!
2. Aerobic exercise is important for the cardiovascular system. It’s defined by repetitive motion such as running, swimming or cycling. It can also tone muscles. Incorporating a little of both aerobic and resistance training is best for your daily routine.
3. Set small, specific goals you can stick to (like losing 5 percent of body weight or exercising three times a week, etc.) Drink green tea (which helps promote weight loss). Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables during your day.
4. Resistance exercise is important for healthy muscles and bones. It also builds strength. It’s defined by activities with short bursts of energy, such as weight lifting, playing sports and even pushing a lawn mower. Ideally, you need both resistance exercise and aerobic exercise to keep your body operating at its peak.
5. Simple ways work for getting fit – you don’t need to join a gym. If you become more active in your everyday life – such as parking your car further and walking more, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or even walking to a co-worker’s desk instead of emailing them – you’ll get fit faster.
6. Your metabolism doesn’t slow with age. It’s just that as people get older they do less strength-training and can lose lean muscle mass. The more lean muscle tissue you have, the higher your metabolism – and the faster you’ll lose weight. Keep your exercise and activity levels up each year, and you’ll simultaneously maintain your muscle tone, keep your metabolism up and maximize healthy weight loss.
7. At least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, at least five times each week, will keep you physically active. You can split each half hour into three 10-minute sessions. If 30 minutes are out of reach right now, start with what you can do and gradually build up.
8. Keep hydrated by consuming at least two liters of water each day. It is even more important to drink water before, during and after exercise. Even low-intensity exercise requires you to be well-hydrated.
9. Rest between workouts and allow your body time to recover.

Meal Replacements: A Great Strategy for Weight Management
When it comes to dieting, most people approach the process by controlling portions and counting calories. But oftentimes, despite even the best efforts, the scale refuses to budge. Inaccuracies in counting calories and estimating portion sizes are two of the biggest obstacles to successful weight loss.
The beauty of meal replacements is that portion control is taken care of, and they're designed to provide great nutrition within a defined number of calories. On top of that, they are simple and convenient for today's busy lifestyles.
Portion control is one of the primary strategies in controlling calorie intake. Many people don't take the time to weigh and measure foods - or if they do, they usually stop after a while, thinking they can estimate portions fairly well. Portion sizes may then begin to creep up, and weight loss starts to slow down. More often than not, portion sizes will then gradually increase and the rate of weight loss slows.
And then there are the practical issues - some may not realize that the 3-ounce portion of meat specified in a meal plan is the size of a deck of cards. Or, perhaps they forget that everything counts, including any fats used in cooking or at the table, or foods that are eaten while standing at the sink or while driving in the car. A few small omissions over the course of a day or week can derail anyone's progress.
Meal replacement shakes take the guesswork out of calorie and portion control, while delivering healthy ingredients and great taste. A number of clinical studies have shown that using meal replacements as part of a weight loss plan can be more effective than counting calories with an all-food plan. In a recent study at the University of Ulm in Germany, subjects drinking two Formula 1 shakes a day (European Formula) lost more weight than people in the study who simply counted calories.
Meal replacement shakes can also be customized, too. By choosing to mix with milk or soy milk, adding a favorite fruit, or tossing in some extra protein powder, a personalized meal can be had in minutes. Convenient, delicious, healthy, portion controlled meals – what more could a dieter ask for?

Fat-Free, Sugar-Free, Calorie-Free?
It's been some time since the fat-free food craze began, but with ongoing reports of the downside of eating too much dietary fat, food manufacturers continue to tempt us with literally thousands of low fat and fat-free foods on supermarket shelves. But buyers should beware – foods designated as light, lowfat or fat-free may not save you calories.
Some of the labels on the first fat-modified foods screamed "light" - leading unwary shoppers to conclude that the products could be eaten with abandon. Only on closer inspection of the nutrition facts was it apparent that many "light" products weren't necessarily lighter in calories, dashing hopes for truly guilt-free snacks and sweets.
Labeling laws are pretty clear on this point – foods like "light" mayonnaise or "light" salad dressing are labeled as such because they have one-third the calories of the traditional form of the food, or half the fat. But if not referring to less fat or calories, the term "light" might also refer to a light taste, color, or texture, and it may take a keen eye to catch these references on a label. "Light" olive oil is lighter in taste – but it has just as many calories as the extra virgin.
Products with less than a half a gram of fat per serving can be labeled "fat-free" – so unless you eat several times the recommended serving, you can figure that your fat intake from that food will be reasonably low. But compare your fat-free version with the standard food before you decide.
With baked goods like cookies or pastries, the fat-free items often have a lot more sugar than the regular version – with no real difference in calories per serving. Sometimes the original food doesn't have that much fat to begin with, so it may be better to stick with that product since the fat-free versions often cost more, too.
The same principles apply when it comes to "sugar-free" foods – products with less than a half a gram per serving can be labeled as such. But consume enough of them, and it can still make a contribution to your calorie intake. Some people eat "sugar-free" candy like there's no tomorrow – and can take in several hundred calories a day if they're not careful.
Due to health concerns, food manufacturers have been scrambling to remove trans fats from many of their products, but in some cases they have replaced trans fats with saturated fats – which can also raise cholesterol levels. And as with sugar, foods with less than a half a gram of trans fat per serving can be labeled "trans fat-free" – so read labels and watch your servings.
Some foods aren't "free" of a particular ingredient, but have less of it than the regular product. Reduce a nutrient, such as fat, by 25 percent or more and labels can tout the words ‘"reduced" or "less" or "fewer" – as in "reduced calorie mayonnaise" or "60 percent fewer calories than regular mayonnaise".
Food manufacturers have heard consumers loud and clear, and work to meet continued demand for tasty products with less fat, calories or sugar. And while the labeling laws are pretty clear, a little comparison shopping is still in - order. Those fat-free cookies may keep your fat intake down, but boost your sugar intake – you may end up paying more and saving few, if any, calories.

Protein Snacks
It is well established that the typical person eating a western-type diet consumes more daily calories than he needs. High-calorie snacks filled with fats and sugars contribute to these extra calories. Protein packed bars, drinks, soups, and nuts are far superior to other snacks because of the inherent differences between protein and sugars and fats.
First off, protein is more satisfying than the other two macronutrients because of specific signals it sends to the brain. When we snack on protein instead of sugars and fats, the body feels more full which helps people control their appetite between meals thus cutting calories and controlling their weight. Recent clinical research has supported this physiologic phenomenon.
A second reason for choosing protein as a snack is its thermogenic effect. This refers to the metabolic tax a food puts on the body after we eat it. This metabolic tax for protein is much higher than sugar or fat because the body uses more energy to digest it. This means that when you choose protein over the other two, you are burning more calories during the process of digestion. Having this higher tax rate is good because protein tends to be low in caloric content, so the body is working harder on fewer calories.
A third reason to choose protein snacks over sugars and fats is the body's need to replenish the building blocks of muscle tissue. Muscle is important for our daily activities and it determines our metabolism. So the more we maintain our healthy lean muscle mass, the higher we maintain metabolism.
So the next time you reach for a snack, choose a protein-rich bar, drink or soup. Avoid high-calorie chips, cookies, candies and sweets. They are generally much higher in calories, and they offer little nutritional value to the body.

What is your shape?

You may think you know when you look in the mirror, or you may be too busy trying to cover up unshapely areas to really see yourself as you are. Do you know how much fat you’re carrying, compared to how much muscle? Do you know where you tend to gain weight–upper body, lower body or around the middle? Until you know the answers to these questions, you are not ready to make your personal plan for losing weight and keeping it off. Understanding your body is the first step to reaching your best personal shape. As someone who teaches both doctors and the public about obesity, I believe weight loss has been overemphasized and body shape underemphasized. You have probably read about the Body-Mass Index (BMI), which is a weight-to-height ratio. If your BMI is greater than 25, you are considered overweight in the U.S., and if it is greater than 30 you are obese. This ratio has been a powerful way for scientists to document the obesity epidemic in this country and its effects on health and disease. However, when it comes to you as an individual, it can be misleading. A football player can be considered overweight on the BMI scale, but if the extra weight being carried is muscle, he is not really fat. A thin woman can have a normal BMI, yet still be over-fat. So shape counts.
Shapes are personal and go beyond the usual apple and pear. Women can have three typical body shapes–upper body fat, lower body fat and both upper and lower body fat. Men usually only get upper body fat. The upper body stores fat in times of stress and some people can lose and gain weight rapidly in the upper body. The lower body fat in women responds to female hormones such as estrogen and progesterone and stores fat for breastfeeding a newborn baby. Women who have both upper and lower body fat will lose their upper body fat first. Women with more upper body fat tend to have more muscle than women with lower body fat and will need more protein in their diet to help control their hunger. Losing weight is harder if you have lower body fat rather than upper body fat, but the medical benefits of losing your upper body fat are greater. Losing weight around your neck, face, chest and waist usually goes along with losing fat on the inside as well. So as you look better, you are also improving your health tremendously.
Finally, there are two more body shapes to consider: The shape you can change and the shape you can’t change. It is important to know the difference and work on the shape you can change, while adjusting your wardrobe and attitudes to the shape you cannot change. Due to low metabolism, many women with lower body fat can’t lose weight just by cutting calories. These lower body-fat cells are resistant to both exercise and diet. Only a personalized program can help make sure you get enough protein to control cravings and build or maintain lean muscle.

Protein 101
A necessity for everybody
Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. It is an organic compound, composed of 22 amino acids, otherwise known as the building blocks of life. Protein is stored in muscles and organs and the body utilizes it to build and repair tissues, as well as for the production of enzymes and hormones. Proteins also make it possible for blood to carry oxygen throughout the body. Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a “macronutrient,” meaning the body needs relatively large amounts of it. The Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that our daily protein requirements should be 10% to 35% of our total caloric intake, with men needing slightly more than women. A lack of protein can cause loss of muscle mass, decreased immunity, as well as weakening of the heart and respiratory system.
How protein affects your weight
The widespread popularity of high-protein diets is due in large part to their ability to help manage hunger. When protein is absorbed, it sends a signal to the brain to decrease your hunger. Another benefit of protein is that it raises your resting metabolism by maintaining muscle mass. As we age, muscle mass decreases without exercise, so staying fit is a key to burning fat by keeping your metabolism high. Protein also leads to a much less rapid rise and fall of blood sugar and insulin, so you avoid the “sugar highs and lows” after eating sweets without adequate protein. Certain foods, however, provide a healthier resource for protein than others.
Consider the source
You can obtain healthy sources of protein without high levels of saturated fat. For example, soybeans, nuts and whole grains provide protein without much saturated fat and offer plenty of healthful fiber and micronutrients as well. If you’re looking for yet another great way to obtain healthy protein, vegetable sources of protein found in Herbalife’s Formula 1, are high-quality and have lower calorie levels with virtually no added fat. Herbalife® products personalize your daily protein intake to match your body’s needs. With a variety of shakes and snacks, the ShapeWorks® program helps you build or maintain lean muscle while providing healthy weight management support.
Now that you’ve increased your knowledge of protein, you can effectively enhance your diet and allow good health to take shape.
